Alternative Education
In efforts to address how to decolonize the body, mind, and spirit or rather how to encourage unlearning among Teacher Candidates, the Alternative Education includes a series of different experts to discuss a variety of topics such as anti-racism, culturally responsive pedagogy, mental health, and intersecting identities.
Notably, the Alternative Education series aims to fill a gap that exists in our program, particularly around the fact that most Teacher Candidates come from a mostly white middle-class background while the student population is increasingly diverse. These events and workshops are meant to guide Teacher Candidates to facilitate and navigate difficult conversations, in addition to creating safer spaces in their own classrooms. As such, the events and workshops will be both informational and transformative, providing links between the theory and the practice.
